A 17-year-old Cass 12 student ingested rat poison in Miau town under Alapur police station limits in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun district on Thursday, fearing he would not do well in his physics exam.
Police said the victim was identified as Raghav Pathak (17), son of farmer Bhaskar Pathak.
According to the police, the 17-year-old victim was a student of a private school in Budaun. He had a physics exam on March 1 and was worried about not getting a good score. The stress of his performance may have finally driven him to the extreme step, police added.
The victim's father said: “My son was very bright in his studies and wanted to get into a top college. He was upset when he came back after taking the exam on Wednesday. I consoled him and advised him not to worry about his grades, but to stay angry and lock himself in his room. In the evening we found that Raghav had ingested poison, and then we immediately shifted him to a private hospital, where his condition did not improve. We then rushed him to the Government Medical College, where he breathed his last.”
Alapur police station SHO Sanjeev Shukla said, “It is a case of suicide and the body has been handed over to the family after postmortem”.
